Labour Friends of Israel reception

Huge turnout at the Labour Friends of Israel reception. Where both the Prime Minister and Foreign Secretary turned up to speek to a largely Jewish audience, which included the Israeli ambassador.

Mr Brown was determined to display his pro-Israeli credentials at a Labour Friends of Israel rally and declared, jowls wobbling with emotion: 'We must never go back to the Thirties when Jewish people were forced to wear the Cross of David.' Cue an embarrassed silence. Er, I think that should be the Star of David...

Miliband has Israeli kin


JTA reports:

"Miri Krimolowski, an Israel Radio correspondent, revealed in the report that she is Miliband's second cousin and that the foreign secretary has other distant relatives in kibbutzim and West Bank settlements. .


. . According to Ma'ariv, about a month ago Miliband sent a videotaped greeting to a gathering of about 100 of his relatives in Israel. "

A spokesman for the British embassy said that, although Mr Miliband had relatives in Israel, he dined with them in Tel Aviv.

One of the relatives, David Landau, an insurance agent, said he was at the Tel Aviv dinner. “We are very proud of the Milibands, even if we do not always agree with their political positions on Israel,” he said.Mr Landau added that most of Mr Miliband’s relatives in Israel are Orthodox, including some West Bank settlers. .
